Warm sweater day in group 5/6a

Warm Sweater day

A lot of schools in Holland turn out the heather for a day. De classroom is very cold. That’s why every student must were a sweater.
We do that so we use energy correctly.
Because of the warm sweater day we made a masterpiece from a sweater on paper. We got the shape from a sweater and we decorate it with a woolen yarn.

Greetings,
Hannah, Dagmar and Lauri
(group 5/6A, Willem de Zwijgerschool, Leiderdorp, Netherlands)

Longest scarf of Holland

Groep 7a made an attempt to knit the longest scarf. This because we participated at the "warm sweater day". This day is a day on wich schools turn down the heat and try to stay warm with sweaters instead of the radiator.

Grow your own vegetables

Every year the 6th grade starts working in their own garden. In the 7th grade they can harvest what they haven planted. They plant their own vegetables and keep their garden free of weeds and insects by using tools and their hands. No use of any chemicals, so we make our own biological vegetables. We must admit, it's a lot of work, but you can taste the difference! Also the children learn were the vegetables come from, instead of the supermarket...... Look at the pictures of harvesting our gardens!

Feeding birds in winter

We learned that it's difficult to find food for the birds when it's winter. To give them something extra, we made seed-bulbs and peanuts on a string and hang them on trees in the schoolyard for the birds to eat!

How do you make ice?

Within our wintertheme with the maincaracter Pompom, we show him it is freezing cold outside! There is ice on the water. We show Pompom what you can do with ice. We make colored ice with lemonade, feel how cold it is and taste it. We make our own icecubes and learn about the freezer. Fortunately we als made our own popsicles, they tasted great!!

Pompom (the caracter central witin our theme) wants to know how it feels to be outside in the winter. He gets a warm scarf, because he has no wintercoat. Fortunately, the children do have warm coats, and scarfs, mittens and hats. There we go. We notice the trees have no leaves, but some bushes still have some leaves. although ist's winter, some flowerbolbs already show their heads. The children tell Pompom that it's to bad there is no snow or ice during the walk. Then you can also see that it's cold from the rooftops of the houses. Then there would be snow on the rooftops. We enjoyed our walk together!
